Digital Copiers and Faxes: ID Snatchers

CBS reports (video) about digital copies and faxes storing images of documents and other data containing private information... right on the machine's internal hard drive.

I felt this issue worthy of looking into a little bit. This issue about the digital According to a Computer security article dated 2007, digital copiers bought in the past 5 years are susceptible.

The funny thing is that nobody seems to mention the small office or personal “all-in-one” machines (printer/fax/copier) that you can buy online or at places like Staples or Best Buy.

I think all (not just a few) manufacturers should resolve this issue like HP did. There should be some kind of standard requiring a "smart erase" feature be built directly into new products and offer patches or recalls on older susceptible products without it!
