Break from Novalogic games (DFX, DFX2, JOAW2)

Sometimes we all need a break from what we concentrate upon. I ran across a cooperative mod for one of my older games that I personally had though of as a single player game (I generally do not care for multiplayer modes such as Deathmatch).

F.E.A.R. Combat is a free multiplayer component of the game F.E.A.R. released by Warner Brothers Studios around 2006. When combine with the free mod called COOP Warfare you get cooperative modes added.

There is no leveling, purchase system or other piddling around to get better weapons and equipment. All weapons and equipment is available right away. Simply go in there, fight the computer generated bad guys and have a blast doing it. Twenty different weapons and tactically smart AI provide some real COOP fun for free.

The graphics rival games like Combat Arms, War Rock and Cross Fire and blow DFX or JO graphics right out of place! The game play is also smooth even on older computer systems (ie. circa 2003). The characters are customizable and unlike some online games in its class, leaning and shooting around corners is available.

The back story is a waste of time and if ignored there is no big loss.

The environments are mostly mid sized offices, buildings and maintenance areas. However, they are large enough to run around and flank the enemy.

The downside, if you want to call it a downside, is that there are not very many cooperative maps available and only a few servers. But, hey, its a nice break for a little while.

Download and Install Info:

You need FEAR Combat, but first you need to get the key code... both can be obtained from the following website. The key code is emailed to you and then you can go back and download the setup file to your desktop. Its a fairly large download, so, it may take 15-30 minutes. Also, you most likely want to print that email of the key code for later.

1. FEAR Combat Multiplayer Component ==>

After it downloads, start the setup... it could take a couple minutes to actually initialize.... follow the on-screen directions and enter that code when prompted.

After it is all set up, you will see a new icon of an brownish-yellow-red eye on your desktop. You can start it if you want, but will want to update the program. The internal update did not work for me. It can be easily done manually. Download the update zip archive to your desktop and extract the contents to your desktop as well. Now just start the update file. It'll take a few minutes.

2. FEAR Combat v1.08 US Patch ==>

So, after the update you can start FEAR Combat (brownish-yellow-red eye icon) and you won't get an update message because the version should be current... exit.

Now get the COOP Warfare mod. Download the zip archive to your desktop and extract the contents there as well. Start the setup file and follow the on-screen directions. You will see another icon (two gray pistols). Click that icon and choose multiplayer.

3. Coop Warfare Mod ==>

The multiplayer screen opens. Click on "source" until "internet" as the source and click "find servers" (this populates the list of servers. Click on server type to order the server list by game type such as Cooperative, Team Deatmatch, etc. etc. Only the "cooperative servers" will actually be active due to the cooperative mod. Scroll down and see the few cooperative servers available. Click on the name of a server that you want to join and finally click "join".

NOTE: There are icons at the top of the server list table. If you run your mouse pointer over each one, it will describe what it is in the bottom portion of the list table.
