Experiences in Dead Rising II (Off The Record)

Post  AKMARK5000 on Fri Jan 31, 2014 3:50 pm

Games like Far Cry III, ARMA III, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Splinter Cell Game Series, ect. ect. kept forcing Dead Rising II (Off The Record) to the bottom of my gaming purchase schedule.  When a STEAM trade presented the opportunity to obtain the entire Dead Rising II Game Series, well, things changed.

I really could not imagine topping a zombie-type-game after playing the Resident Evil Op. Raccoon City, Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide, but Dead Rising II and Dead Rising II (Off The Record) was a better than expected experience.

I tried Dead Rising II Off The Record (DR2-OTR) first and the tried the original Dead Rising II.  Both were essentially the same.  Some scenes were exactly the same except for the main and subsequent characters.  Don't get me wrong, OTR offers some new graphics, objects, game mechanics and of course a different overall feel to it's storyline.  This is especially nice for newcomers to the series, such as myself, and returning fans who played the first Dead Rising (XBox exclusive).  In fact, for those who game on the PC exclusively like me, the below is worth watching.

Recommended Dead Rising II Off The Record Reviews and First Impressions:

Recommended Dead Rising II Off The Record Walk-through Series (Spoiler Alert):

The above videos do not seem to cover any of the Dead Rising II Off The Record DLC Content, which I recommend getting... after all the Dead Rising II Complete package is relatively cheap... and yes, this package includes Dead Rising II and DR2 Off The Record and all the DLCs.

As with all my games, I've applied SweetFX and then recorded a video for my new YouTube channel. This clip shows the difference SweetFX makes when applied to Dead Rising II Off The Record. When the recording colors seem a bit deeper and richer (right-hand side) is where SweetFX is switched ON... when the colors look faded and washed out (left-hand side) is where SweetFX is switched OFF.

Compilation Mod Project (CMP Mod)

Post  AKMARK5000 on Fri Jan 31, 2014 6:16 pm

One of the first things that I looked for after buying Dead Rising II Off The Record was applicable mods.  I joined a website devoted to modding DR2/DR2-OTR and had a field day looking at the available mods.

After drooling over the mods that I could apply to both Dead Rising II and Dead Rising II Off The Record, I decided to just focus on one game... Dead Rising II Off The Record was the newer version and I had all the DLCs.

There were many mods to choose from, but no single mod had all the features that I wanted. So, I did a little modding of my own... easier than I initially thought. Although, I think I saw a post saying that Dead Rising II Off The Record was an easy game to mod. Regardless, I learned a little programing (very little) and how to manipulate Dead Rising II Off The Record files. Building my custom mod was actually fun. Although it is more of a compilation of existing modes put together.

I don't claim credit here... its just something that I compiled for my personal enjoyment and felt that others might enjoy it as well... credit goes out to the individual mods and their respective mod makers (found at the website listed above).

GAME: Dead Rising II Off The Record + all retail/legal the DLCs.

BASE MOD USED: http://deadrising2mods.proboards.com/thread/1626/alex-home-mods-combined

DESCRIPTION LIST:

- Unlimited Firearm Ammo
- Swords and Melee Weapons Durability Increase (2000+)
- Food Heals Increase (three more blocks of health than before)
- Vehicles Durability Increase
- SportS-car and Blitzkrieg Location (parked outside the Royal Flush Plaza, and the Chopper is parked across the rock from the car)
- The Megaman Blaster
- Freako's underwear clothing dispenser
- Billsy's short-cut mod
- Slimmer Body Skins (for Frank when wearing the Protoman, Soldier and Ninja Outfits)
- DLC clothing Dispenser(inside the safe-house restroom (Cyborg, Chef, Cosplay, and Fireman costumes)
- Buy Explosive Weapons Snack Machine (located around the map... you'll need to figure it out... can't remember which is which

NOTE:

The most powerful weapon is the Queen Bee Jar. It has a full punch that wipes away all zombies every time you go into a new area. This might cause the game to crash if you're not careful... so please save our game after each kill in an area and before going to another area again... if you start killing zombies at 0, one break of a jar, and poof, you'll get 2k killed in a blink

You can also buy Queen bee Jars and Wingman Jars, but from the weapons vending machines... one purchase cost millions, but money is to easy; 1 smash from ATM machines gets you $1mil... Money Hacker you'll get $4mil... Cash Registers gives you 200k and Casino Machines and Slot Machines give multiples of winnings from before.

- Wingman Jars(5 per buy) costs $10million
- Queen Bee Jars(5 per buy) costs $5million

Also, be aware, explosive weapons have larger and wider radius... be minded to go away a little after throwing them... except for Molotovs.  Firearms have faster rate of fire, water-guns can kill zombies, handguns have an effect like the six shooter and Blambow has wide explosive radius too!

Among eight Survivors, you'll get to see 1 Tiger, 3 Assault Rifle-armed Soldiers, 1 LMG-armed soldier, and 3 ladies :

- Rebecca with LMG
- Stacy in a Phenotrans Agent suit with LMG
- Lulu the Bunny with Six Shooter
- Snowflake the Tiger

ADDED MOD CODE: http://deadrising2mods.proboards.com/board/17/mod-releases

- All Unlock-able Outfits In Safe-house
- Safe-house Underwear Vendor And Glasses Remover
- Zombrex And Protoman Dispenser In Safe-house
- Vehicle Keys (Includes Underground Keys)
- Pocket Everything
- Combo Card Unlock
- Frank "No Camera" animations

DISCAIMER:  I did nothing except gather and combined other peoples work.  Credit goes to all the original mod makers.  This was made for my personal game enhancement and thought others might enjoy it.

INSTALL:

1. Backup the current "datafile.big" located inside the Dead Rising 2 Off the Record data folder.

2. Extract the "datafile.big" into your game's data folder (overwrite is ok as long as a backup was made).

** Example Location; C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Dead Rising 2 Off the Record\data...).
